Valve's vaunted Steam gross revenue whip PC gamers into a purchasing frenzy, but the "Spring Cleanup" event that kicked off today has the opposite goal: coaxing hoi polloi into playing games that they already own, but rarely play.

The Spring Cleaning event runs through May 28 and uses Steam clean's meta-game-esque badge system to encourage backlog clearing. Performin games that you haven't touched in a while—or at complete—completes daily tasks Beaver State one-sentence projects that unlock a special Spring Cleaning badge, which can then represent leveled up by dipping further into your library.

Interestingly, Steam scans your backlog and substance abuser profile to create custom-built objectives for each drug user. Selecting today's "Spin Cycle" daily task, for instance, picks four random games from your library to bring off. The "Trusted Friend" throw, on the other hand, scans your log to intimate games you own that your friends have recommended on the political platform. New one-prison term projects take up you playing a game you've spent more than two hours in, simply non in a while, and the first championship you ever added to your account.

All of the recommendations and tasks extract from games you already personal—none push you to steal something radical. It's a novel change from the usual "BUY MORE Bum" clarion call of Steam gross sales and middle-week discounts.

That said, there are opportunities to try games during Steam's Spring Cleaning event. Club within reason older games (take form cleansing!) are available to play for free for the entire duration of the upshot, and honestly, they'Re all pretty good if you haven't had a prospect to give them a spin withal.
